Meet the Sultans of Swing

When one of the world's greatest rock bands, Dire Straits, disbanded for good in 1995, they left behind them a catalogue of some of the finest rock compositions and performances of modern times - an achievement that saw them deservedly entered into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Rising to prominence during the post-punk era of the late 1970s, Dire Straits' musical influences were as far reaching as blues-rock, jazz, country and folk. Led by guitarist/vocalist Mark Knopfler, whose lyrics and vocals were the main driving force behind the group, they radiated a mature rock and roll sound that was inspired by legendary musicians such as Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton. The demo "Sultans of Swing" is probably one of their best-known songs even today and alongside their debut album, Dire Straits, paved the way for over two decades of worldwide success and sold-out world tours. Jazz/rock saxophonist Chris White joined Dire Straits in 1985 and toured with them until the band dispersed in 1995. It's his vision that has brought together this critically acclaimed tour paying tribute to their glory years and reviving the classics for audiences of all ages on home turf and around the world in locations as far reaching as Australia and New Zealand.
