St Vincent Biography - Underground Sensation to International Star

Annie Erin Clark was born in 1982 in Oklahoma and spent most of her youth growing up in Texas, where she enjoyed singing and studying the guitar. She acquired a taste for performing live after joining her uncle on the road with his popular jazz duo Tuck and Patti, before studying at the prestigious Berklee School of Music. In 2004, she had her big break after joining the popular cult baroque band The Polyphonic Spree in which she performed as a singer and guitarist. She left the band in 2006 to join Sufjan Stevens as a backing vocalist. After appearing on records by illustrious indie bands like The Mountain Goats, the creative singer released her debut album Marry Me in 2007, taking inspiration from a meld of celebrated solo artists including Billie holiday and Regina Spektor.

Attracting a horde of fans all over the globe, the record paved the way for further hits like Actor in 2009 and Strange Mercy in 2011.
