Squid is the name of a stratospherically talented band, founded by Ollie Judge on drums and vocals, axeman Louis Borlase on vocals, Arthur Leadbetter on cello and keyboard, bassist Laurie Nankivell playing the coronet and Anton Pearson on vocals and guitar, who began playing their eclectic assortment of instruments when they were students at the University of Sussex. They say they have forgotten how they arrived at the chosen name, but we can assure you it is a lot better than one or two of the names they tried out before. They tour constantly, and yet still had time to release a series of very well-regarded albums. They often seem to choose smaller venues with great pedigrees, such as The 100 Club in London; on the other hand they have also played Glastonbury Festival, which was a chance for a huge number of people to hear them for the first time.
