Rocked and inspired by talents such as The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and legendary blues musician Elvin Bishop, singer and talented guitarist Robben Ford occupies a prominent place in both the blues and current musical scenes. Having received several Grammy nominations and played with Miles Davies, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Joni Mitchell and George Harrison, it is evident from the very first notes that this wizard of the six string guitar is capable of distilling a skillful blend of blues, rock and jazz.
Schedule
Considered one of the most brilliant guitarists of our time, Robben Ford performs on a regular basis at venues and musical festivals and tours worldwide. The artist's performances can be enjoyed at the acclaimed City Winery in New York City and the intimate North Sea Jazz Club in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to name just a few.
Trivia
Robben Ford is an atypical guitar phenomenon who discovered the saxophone and the guitar at age 13 by listening to Mike Bloomfield's music. Coming from a large family of musicians in Woodland, California, he was only 18 when he founded The Charles Ford Band with his brothers Mark (harmonica) and Patrick (drums), a tribute to his country guitarist father, Charles Ford.Singer
The vitality of the California music scene in he 1960s was critical for giving Ford the opportunity to not only discover his sound by attending Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, John Coltrane and BB King concerts in San Francisco, but also to gain an understanding and appreciation of the rebellious spirit of some of the best jazz and rock musicians playing at the time. Before creating his band The Yellow Jackets in the early 1980s, the rest of Ford's career had him play alongside musicians whose names speak for themselves: George Harrison, Charlie Musselwhite, Jimmy Witherspoon and Joni Mitchell. While his technical prowess as a guitarist is impressive, it is his ability to detach from his fellow contemporaries' loaded and complex strums that have always stood out. It is by bringing an inimitable feeling of simplicity to a harmonically loaded sound that has made Robben Ford one of today's references of blues music, and recognised as one the "100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century" by Musician magazine.
Breakthrough
The different musical worlds of jazz harmonies of old legends, rock stars and rough blues pioneers fed Ford's taste for an unbridled, but always carefully controlled, guitar interpretations; this double game played an important role in identifying his musical personality. The electric Miles Davis was impressed by the expressive force of this carefree young guitarist and invited him to perform on his 1986 world tour. His appearance on Davis' The Complete Miles Davis at Montreux box set and the unexpected experience propelled Robben Ford in to the spotlight. Within weeks, he became the talk of the music press, to the point of being mentioned in Musician magazine's top guitarist list.
Hit Albums
Having earned his stripes as a talented guitarist, Robben Ford has played and collaborated on the albums of various artists. His most notable work includes becoming a member of the band L.A express and collaborating with Mitchell on her album "Miles and Aisles" in 1974 and as a guitarist on KISS' 1982 album Creatures of the Night. His 2013 album 'Bringing It Back Home' is also among his hits, being a captivating and bold reinterpretation of black American heritage.
Show Experience
Decades after forming his first band The Charles Ford Band in the 1960s and the release of numerous albums, Robben Ford is still driven by the passion of taking his audiences on voyages into his eclectic and entrancing universe. His concerts are an expression of his rather blues-oriented jazz compositions and clean sound. The lyricism of his musical improvisations are undeniable sources of emotions for his international audiences.
