The Pogues Biography - A True Punk Fairytale

Frontman MacGowan and tin whistle player Peter 'Spider' Stacy met in 1977 at a Ramones gig in London, eventually forming their own band under the name Pogue Mahone. After getting their big break opening for The Clash in 1984, they released their debut album Red Roses for Me, before hitting the Top 20 with ground-breaking follow-up Rum Sodomy and the Lash the following year. In 2003, Rolling Stone placed the album in their 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. The band is perhaps best known for their bittersweet ballad 'Fairytale of New York', featuring vocals from the late Kirsty MacColl. Since hitting Number 2 in the charts in 1987, this multi-million seller has been declared Britain's favourite festive anthem, re-entering the charts every Christmas since 2005.
