Patrick Wolf Biography - Teenage Renegade, Indie Aristocrat

Born in 1983, the Irish hailing singer/songwriter grew up in South London in a creative family. A classically trained pianist, he started recording his own songs at the age of 12 on a four-track recorder before joining art pop collective Minty in his early teens. Instead of sitting his A-levels, the 16 year old left home and formed noise-pop trio Maison Crimineaux, catching the attention of Capitol K. The electro kingpin would then go on to release Wolf's 2003 solo debut Lycanthropy.

Named among music bible NME's top albums of the year, the LP received critical acclaim and served as an international launching pad for the burgeoning artist. Enrolling at Trinity College Music Conservatoire to hone his composing skills, he soon began working on the sophomore Wind in the Wires, a downtempo piece of folktronica released in 2005. Reaching out to a larger audience with third record The Magic Position from 2007, a collection of love songs featuring collaborations with Marianne Faithfull amongst others, the underground artist had become an indie darling, with Patrick Wolf tickets selling out fast each time he went on tour.
