Panda Bear Biography - Impressive Outside of Animal Collective

Born in 1978, Noah Benjamin Lennox grew up in sleepy Roland Park, attending high school, playing sports and joining the school choir. At the age of 15 he met friend Josh Dibb, and under the moniker Automine they began to craft their own take on Krautrock. Working in a series of music constellations the young artist began to focus on his solo project, earning his stage name from the habit of doodling pandas on record sleeves.

Self-releasing his eponymous debut in 1998, the artist decided to move to New York in the summer of 2000. Spending most of his time in David Portner's, aka Avey Tare, apartment where he and the future members of Animal Collective lay the groundwork for the sound that would result in the 2001 release Danse Manatee. Juggling his band career with his side project, it took six years before sophomore solo album Young Prayer was released in 2004. Even though the album received favourable reviews, it took until 2007 for the American talent to break through as a solo artist due to the lauded follow-up Person Pitch. Connecting with a broader audience this time around, the innovative American reached new heights of indie-stardom.
