Once a club playing regularly in European matches and hoping to be the next success story, the spring of 2017 brought the club relegation to the second tier of the league system. The second tier of Dutch football is nothing new for the club, although it had yet to win a major trophy ahead of 2018/19. However, the good times remain fresh in the memory for fans of the club. They qualified for the Europa League in the first decade of the 21st century. In 2003, they lasted one round, being knocked out by Wisla Krakow after losing 2-1 at the Goffertstadion. Five years later, the Nijmegen club made it through to the group stage, playing great clubs like Tottenham of the English Premier League.
