Miguel Poveda  – a musical sensation

Born in Barcelona in a non-gypsy, non-Andalusian and non-artistic family, Miguel Poveda became a real sensation against all odds when he started singing flamenco music, a style normally associated with the south of Spain. His sister Sonia Poveda was a flamenco dancer, and he initially started singing at the age of 15 to accompany her dancing. He went on to win 4 awards at the festival "La Union Cante de las Minas" in 1993, including the prestigious Lampa Minera trophy. It was the first time a singer won 4 awards in the same year since 1956, and this feat boosted his career. Over the course of his career, he has released over 10 albums, some as solo works and some in collaboration with other artists, such as Spanish composer Joan Albert Amargos or Argentinian composer Rodolfo Mederos. In his live shows, Miguel Poveda has collaborated with exceptional musicians, such as guitarist Jesús Guerrero, and dancers such as Antonio Molina El Choro. He has appeared at multiple big music festivals, such as the Seville Flamenco Biennial and the Flamenco por Tarantos festival in Madrid, and even made a film appearance in 1994 in a film directed by Juan Jose Bigas Luna. In 2004, he started experimenting with different genres of music, alternating between Catalan music, flamenco and poetry recordings.
