Mclusky Tickets

A post-hardcore rock band from Cardiff, Mclusky split up in 2005, having been performing since 1996. The band subsequently re-formed in 2017, playing a blend of hard and noise rock. A three-piece, Mclusky was originally known as Best. The band is led by an Englishman by the name of Andrew Falkous, who was raised in Newcastle. The other two members of Mclusky are Jonathan Chapple, who plays bass and sings, plus Jack Egglestone on drums. The band’s two former members are Matt Harding and Geraint Bevan.

Falkous and Harding were the two founding members of the band, having met by chance at their local music venue. The duo soon became a three-piece when Bevan, a member of Falkous’ previous band, Myrtle, was recruited. Bevan later embarked on an acting career, leaving the group. The pair needed a new bassist and Chapple was recruited after another chance encounter with Falkous, this time at the Reading Festival. The three finished off the previous recording work that had been laid down at Ocean Studios in Cardiff and released the work as an EP. Their unofficial debut, Benedict EP, marked the advent of a new sound and Mclusky was up and running.

In 1999, following the change of name from Best and having released a three-track single for Seriously Groovy, a London label, the band set about recording their debut album. This appeared in 2000 and was called My Pain and Sadness Is More Sad and More Painful Than Yours. Spawning two singles, “Joy” and “Rice is Nice”, it would go on to be re-released in 2003 on the Too Pure label. The second release of the album came about because the band’s second album did so well and international audiences were finally picking up on what Mclusky had to offer. In 2002, critics, DJs and music fans welcomed Mclusky Do Dallas. The band's second album had four singles issued to promote it, including “To Hell With Good Intentions” and “Whoyouknow”.

After some recording sessions spent in the company of Steve Albini, the legendary American producer, Mclusky put out their third LP, in 2004. This was called The Difference Between Me And You Is That I’m Not On Fire. Warmly received by indie fans as well as hard rockers, the LP ran for just over 40 minutes, with 13 tracks. Before the band imploded, there was time for one more major release, Mcluskyism, a retrospective work that came out in 2006. In 2014, Falkous played a benefit gig, which was to be a one-off. With former bandmates joining him, the decision was taken to re-form the group permanently.
