John Rutter - Choral Composer to Celebrate Christmas at the Royal Albert Hall

This British conductor and composer is best known for his extensive choral work, embracing both orchestral and instrumental pieces as well as operas and piano concertos. Throughout his long career he has composed Christmas carols, extended versions of classics like 'Gloria' and even an anthem for the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton called 'This is the Day'. He has led ensembles across the globe, and conducts the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for a Christmas Celebration show at the Royal Albert Hall each year. John Rutter - Classical Conductor to Acclaimed Composer

Born in London in 1945, the young composer attended Highgate School before reading music at Cambridge. Whilst at university he joined the choir and upon gaining the role of director just a few years later, he led them to prominence, winning competitions across the world between 1975 and 1979. After leaving the post, he founded his own choir The Cambridge Singers and began to make recordings of both his own works and famous choral repertoires under the label he had created, Collegium Records. His most famous works to date include: 'Gloria' (1974), 'Magnificat' (1990) and 'Mass of the Children' (2003), and alongside David Willcocks he has also edited four volumes of the popular Carols for Choirs series. His honour list is equally as impressive, having been awarded a Fellow of the Guild of Church Musicians in 1988, a Lambeth Doctorate of Music in 1996 and a CBE for his services to music in 2007.
