Jeremih Biography - From Marching Band to R&B Star Status

Born in Chicago, Illinois, the young musician began to teach himself drums, piano and saxophone from the age of three and joined the marching and Latin jazz band whilst at school. By 2007, he had enrolled in Columbia College Chicago and began collaborating with record producer Mick Schultz. Their demo 'My Ride' caught the attention of Def Jam CEO Russell Simmons, and after a quick performance, the rapper was offered a record contract the very same day. Debut single 'Birthday Sex' shot to the top of the Billboard 200, and his self-titled first LP quickly landed at number six in the album charts. After touring with the likes of Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy for America's Most Wanted, he returned to the studio to work on material for sophomore effort All About You.

Prior to the album's release, second single 'Down on Me' (featuring 50 Cent) became another success for the R&B star, sitting at the number one spot in the Rhythmic Billboard chart for eight weeks. However, the next few years were quiet for the musician, as plans to release his third record in summer 2012 fell through. Indeed, fans had to wait until June 2014 for 'Don't Tell 'Em', the first single from new album Late Nights, but it was followed by 'Planes', 'Tonight Belongs to U!', 'Oui', 'Royalty', 'Peace Sign' and 'Pass Dat' before the album finally dropped on December 4th.
