DIIV Biography - Inspired by Nirvana

Originally named Dive after the Nirvana song of the same name, this group was first conceived as the brain child of guitarist Zachary Cole Smith, who originally wanted to spearhead a solo project back in 2011. After recruiting three more members for his group, the now four-strong band signed to the Captured Tracks label and released debut single 'Sometime' in 2012, when they also changed their name to their current moniker after encountering legal problems.

Their debut album, Oshin, closely followed in June of the same year and demonstrated influences from grunge, Krautrock and world music. A few months later the group were supporting The Vaccines and Japandroids on national tours around the UK and US, further building their fanbase on our shores. Totally immersed in their own dream-like sets, this New York quintet produce a meticulously thought-out sound that really comes into its own when performed live. Carefully straddling the line between madness and genius, their hauntingly graceful tracks leave audiences rapt, and thus it's no surprise their tours are proving increasingly popular among switched-on gig-goers.
