Born 1983 in the small town of Checotah, Oklahoma, Carrie Underwood started singing at a tender age. Adding guitar and piano to her dulcet voice, the then teenager performed at town events and the local church. Giving up her dream of singing, Underwood applied to Northeastern State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications.
Carrie Underwood's childhood dream to become a renowned artist was renewed upon entering the fourth series of the American Idol competition. The first country singer to win the national talent show, after claiming victory she recorded songs for her album Some Hearts, in what would become the signature Carrie Underwood style. Some Hearts sold 300,000 copies in its first week, making it the bestselling country debut in music history produced by a female singer. Going platinum an astounding seven times, it spawned the number one singles 'Jesus, Take the Wheel' and 'Before He Cheats'.
