Ben Harper Biography - Inspired by Marley
Growing up in California, this luminary artist enjoyed a marvellously musical childhood, learning to play the guitar after being inspired by his grandparents' store The Folk Music Center and Museum. He knew he was destined to become a singer after seeing a Bob Marley show in Burbank and released his first record Pleasure and Pain in 1992 - Virgin Records were so impressed with his skill they secured a lifetime deal with the label. His official debut album Welcome to the Cruel World opened up a huge Australian and European fan base. He became the 'Artist of the Year' for France's Rolling Stone Magazine in 2003 and since then, he has garnered a huge following in his native America, helping him to score Grammy success in 2005 and 2014.
Over the years, he has collaborated with a wealth of celebrated folk and blues musicians including Tom Freund and Jack Johnson. With a back catalogue of eleven successful studio albums, his latest 2013 release Get Up has cemented him as one of the most internationally appealing singing stars.
