BC Camplight: adopted Mancunian to tour UK in 2018

Hailing from New Jersey, BC Camplight is the stage name of American songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brian Christinzio. A cult success in the UK as well as his native US, BC Camplight's trio of albums – Hide, Run Away (2005); Blink of a Nihilist (2007); How to Die in the North (2015) – received widespread critical acclaim, while collaborations with The War on Drugs and Sharon Van Etten raised his standing further in the music industry. However, the albums failed to take off commercially and Christinzio was dropped by record label One Little Indian. 

Following the advice of a fan on social media, he relocated to Manchester in 2012 and credits the city with saving his life as he battled mental health issues, as well as drug and alcohol addiction. After a long period of recovery, third album How to Die in the North was finally released in January 2015, with Christinzio returning to touring with his band – currently consisting of Hattie Coombe, Stephen Mutch, Jonno "Espranto" Prestbury, Adam Dawson and Robbie Rush – shortly after. 

With fourth album Deportation Blues due for release in the summer of 2018, BC Camplight will promote the record with a series of shows across the UK in October and November; beginning, of course, in Manchester. "It was an act of spiritual desperation that brought me to Manchester," Christinzio told the Manchester Evening News back in 2013. "Back in Philly, everything was going downhill for me; physically, emotionally, everything was deteriorating... I knew I'd most likely be dead or in jail if I stayed there. I needed a fresh start, so I packed my bag and moved to Manchester. Within two weeks, I’d written about half an album."
