AZ Alkmaar Tickets
AZ Alkmaar: the comeback club
AZ Alkmaar, fondly nicknamed 'The Cheeseheads' on account of the famous cheese market that takes place in Alkmaar city, is one of the Netherlands' most prominent football clubs. Playing in the Eredvisie, the club has been famously troubled in the past but in recent years has shown remarkable success on the pitch. See what the coming seasons have in store with AZ Alkmaar tickets available to buy or sell on StubHub.
Visit the iconic AZ Alkmaar stadium
The AZ Alkmaar stadium is boldly striped in red and black, the club's colours, and currently goes by the name of AFAS Stadion. Holding 17,000 fans, the stadium is regularly packed with supporters cheering on the team from the North of Holland. After a period of deterioration in the 1980s, the club bounced back to eventually return to the Eredivisie in 1998. Wins in the premier division (2008-9), Johan Cruijff Schaal (2009) and KNVB Beker (2012-13) followed - as did a host of managerial changes. AZ Alkmaar has played in European football leagues for many years and takes part in the annual North Holland Derby against rivals AFC Ajax, Telstar and FC Volendam. Despite the problems of the 1980s, fans look back fondly on a remarkable run of 32 unbeaten home games in European matches between 1977 and 2007 as a sort of golden period. And with the club growing ever stronger, AZ Alkmaar tickets might just give you the chance to witness the start of a new record.
Watch high-quality football with AZ Alkmaar
Aside from the fact that it has very regularly sacked its managers, AZ Alkmaar transfers have become a thing of legend. In 2015, the club sold most of its first team players and, in 2016, the previous season's top goal scorer Vincent Janssen was passed on to Tottenham Hotspur. Since then, the team has proved a little more cohesive. Besides Janssen, other notable AZ Alkmaar players have included Markus Henriksen, Sergio Romero and Ron Vlaar. Louis van Gaal, one of the most decorated managers in football history, was perhaps the most famous AZ Alkaar manager, but the 2014 appointment of John van den Brom also saw the club shoot up to third place in the Eredivisie with an unprecedented victory over Feyenoord. Unsurprisingly, van den Brom was allowed to see the team through following seasons. There's no denying that they have a complicated history behind them, but the red and black team shows constant skill, determination and sporting prowess. Buy or sell your AZ Alkaar tickets on StubHub now - with the Cheeseheads on the pitch, anything could happen!
