An instrumental band formed in 2007 by Tosin Abasi and based in Washington DC, Animals as Leaders is one of the leading bands on the djent scene, a recent movement in metalcore which developed as a spin-off of progressive metalcore. The name is derived from Daniel Quinn’s novel "Ishmael". Their debut album, entitled "Animals as Leaders", was released in 2009 to critical acclaim, and their second album, "Weightless", was launched in 2011. They were initially signed by Prosthetic Records, but switched to independent label Sumerian Records for their third album: "The Joy of Motion" was released in 2014 and "The Madness of Many" in 2016, both under their new label.
